SA Power Networks’ Hackathon Journey
SA Power Networks - From Hackathon to AI-powered Asset Management
SAUG member, SA Power Networks, is the principal electricity distributor in the state of South Australia and has faced the continual challenge of delivering services to a large area (4 times the size of the UK) and a dispersed population with some very remote communities. In particular, how can a field technician access the vasts amounts of information to help service an asset when they are on a truck or 10 metres up a pole? SAPN took this challenge as an entry in the SAUG BTP Hackathon 2024 and with the help of the Hackathon enablement sessions, developed an AI powered app within SAP BTP which could pull information from numerous service manuals for quick and easy access on mobile devices.
After showcasing their Hackthon entry app at the SAUG National Summit in Sydney 2024, SAPN became a finalist by popular vote. As well as sharing their learnings in the SAUG AI Community of Practice and other SAUG forums, the successful Hackathon app was taken up by the SAPN business for assessment and roll out.
